Xbox 360 buttons

Hoping someone with experience can help figure this out.
I'm trying to figure out how I'm going to set up the ABXY buttons in my PiGear. I've spliced the button holes from a donor 360 controller into the game gear shell (thanks to Moosepr for the inspiring link). However, in the only picture on that page where the buttons are connected, I cannot really tell where exactly he cut the original board pcb.
So, I'm trying to figure out either:
A) Where to cut the donor 360 board
Or
B) Should I just order Easy buttons and DIY
I'm not worried about the d-pad, as I'm highly leaning towards an analog stick and breakout board in its place.
