I built the Pi grrl zero from adafruit and every time I install the software onto an ad card and plug it into my Pi zero and boot it up I get the same white screen can someone please help me?

Sounds like your screen is getting power but isn't configured properly. You used the image from Adafruit? Is there a chance you used an image intended for the Pi 2/3 rather than the Pi 1/Zero?

Yea that is possible but I have tried three different downloads all said they were for Pi zero and the latest one I tried said it was for raspberry Pi 0/1 so yea I don't think that's the problem. From what I have read is that I need to update it somehow with another pi but I don't have another pi

I faced a "white screen" issue too but it was with SPI connections. However my tests and tries reveals that most of the time the connection flat wire is to well connected. Dust can also be your enemy. Try to clean everything with alcohol. I resolved my issue with this method.
