VM For Editing Pi Filesystem
VM For Editing Pi Filesystem
I'm going to try PIXEL for PC and Mac today in an attempt to configure my GB0 filesystem. Somehow, I killed my wifi dongle, so ssh is impossible at the moment. Has anybody else used a VM or or other Windows or Mac setup to edit their Pi filesystem. USB passthrough can be tricky. A full-blown VMware setup is little too fat for my purposes. I want something lighter that would be convenient for editing configs and roms. Any advise?
Re: VM For Editing Pi Filesystem
PIXEL is working great on my Mac. It boots from USB like a live image. As far as I know, it's running the same Debian as Retropie. It works just like I suspected for editing my sd card for my GB0. It's a 1.3GB image, so if you have a 2 GB USB flash drive, you're good to go.

I'd recommend Paragon ExtFS https://www.paragon-software.com/home/extfs-windows/
It is free and after 30 days you're limited to 5MB/s which is fine anyway a lot lighter than VMs..basically appears as a new drive letter
FYI if you're on Windows why not use HyperV, if you have win8/10 pro or so it's already there just add the feature, and you can run VMs without installing anything
If you're on a Mac, you should be able to just 'sudo mount /dev/sdb /mnt' as long as you put the right block device, unless it lacks certain EXT3/4 support? (I don't have a Mac)
