Does anyone know where I can get the original Gameboy cart socket from please?
I have an old gameboy which i've ripped apart for the bits but the only useable things are the buttons and case. A catastrophic battery leak has destroyed just about everything else. I'd like to build the GBZ but I need the original cart socket.

Any ideas?

I just picked up a cheater cart and it had an extra slot. If you can't find a cheap broken gameboy or a replacement part sold alone that route should be an option.

This one is called Monster Brain.

Someone recently told me about using the GBA cart slot from a DS Lite since those can be purchased separately. It requires a few bits be trimmed off but it works great once you do that, and is in fact much easier to solder the pins since they are all in a row:

It's also much thinner. Just have to use a lot of glue or epoxy to hold it in securely. If you're ok with those caveats, then it works great!

I've seen people cannibalise the Super Game Boy.

Yeah but people seriously don't need to cannibalize original gameboys at all anymore. The power switches are nicer than the replacements i have seen but everything including that is replaceable. Replacement headphone jack and cartridge reader are superior to the original parts in my opinion. Plus replacement stuff is cheaper than a broken DMG.

Yep I've done that and it's great.

I recently cannibalised a ds motherboard for the cart reader. Once you remove a couple of pieces of plastic, it fits great! I got the motherboard for £6.50
