Circuit Sword - Wifi issue

Post by grapes8 » Thu Mar 22, 2018 11:40 pm

Hello, I'm having an issue with my Circuit Sword 1.1e connecting to my wifi network. I tried to search the forums for answers, and even though there are similar problems, none of the solutions seem to work.
  • onboard wifi able to see list of available networks, but is unable to connect to my network when i input the password
  • using a USB dongle wifi worked (rules out keyboard issues since password worked this way)
  • blue wifi light is on
  • tried changing keyboard language to 104 English keybaord
  • tried wpa_supplicant.conf method but didnt work
  • tried using wifikeyfile.txt with no luck
  • tried adding Keplon tape to wifi module but i dont have the board in a case so shorting by USB can't the problem
  • using retropie-4.3-rpi2_rpi3_pi_4.14.14-v7+_CSO_CM3_20180212-074145.img
  • tried flashing card with fresh install several times to same result
It just doesnt want to connect... Is there anything else I can try?? Am I missing something?

Ive attached a bunch of pictures so you can see if there are any lights not on or something.

Thank you in advance!

Odd, can you run the raspi-setup utility, and go to localisation, and make sure your 'wifi country' is set?

Also can you upload this log file to pastebin or something? https://github.com/kiteretro/Circuit-Sw ... e-log-file

Hi Kite, thanks for taking a look at my problem.

I have set the Wifi country to US, i forgot to mention that in my initial post.

I think we might be getting close to the the problem, i didn't mention it but my CSO is also freezing up periodically when testing. I first tried to make the messages.txt like you suggested but got a 'no space left on device' error. I tried a new SD card and it seemed to work that time but I feel like i may have run out of space because its constantly running an error in the message which might have filled up the memory card (32GB!)

So I was able to make a message text by doing it is quickly as possible and its already over 20mb.

Here is a link to the messages.txt, let me know if you're able to see it:

https://www.dropbox.com/s/kyohkdq5p0s88 ... s.txt?dl=0

looking inside 99% of it is filled with the following over and over:

Code: Select all

Jul  5 11:45:52 retropie kernel: [    3.591042] WARN::dwc_otg_handle_mode_mismatch_intr:68:
Mode Mismatch Interrupt: currently in Host mode
I tried to find out what this means and best I can figure it might be a grounding issue with the wifi module, but not sure where. Does this mean anything to you?

Thanks again!

Ok cool, it appears related to this issue: https://github.com/raspberrypi/linux/issues/2408

It looks to be solved 10 days ago, so I will update the kernel and let you know what to do to fix.. it is possible to update the kernel right now however you'll need networking in order to do it! If your USB wifi adapter works, you can try:

Code: Select all

sudo rpi-update
Also, does your sound work? It looks like those messages are to do with USB sound oddly enough..

Also, does disabling wifi with these steps: https://github.com/kiteretro/Circuit-Sw ... completely stop those errors appearing?

Thanks again for looking into this. I will try to update the kernal using the external wifi adapter.

I haven't hooked up the speaker yet but I was able to hear audio with earbuds using the headphone jack while running a rom. So that seems to be working.

Ill let you know how that goes shortly.

Thanks!

Ok so I tried disabling the wifi module in config and it still prints the error in the messages.

Then I used a fresh SD card and tried to start over to udpate the kernal. I tried to run rpi-update using usb wifi and it installed the update but it seems to have turned off the wifi module. I unplugged the usb wifi and turned on the board, so while the blue light is on the wifi icon is crossed out, pic below. Using the MODE + A buttons doesn't seem to turn it on. It still prints the error in messages, link below.

Here is the message log
https://www.dropbox.com/s/6y4q6720mwaqr ... 2.txt?dl=0

is there anything else I can do. I don't mind waiting until your next kernal update.

Thanks

I think best bet is to email me and we'll sort out a return of your board, there is no guarantee that the update would fix it! That kernel update doesn't look to have included the wifi software..
