Circuit Shield - White Screen

Post by kaltalen » Sun Jan 16, 2022 6:44 pm

Hi All,
Started getting my Circuit Shield together today, Ran through the set up here:
https://github.com/kiteretro/Circuit-Sh ... uit-Shield
Everything seems fine till step 11, where i don't get anything on my display, just white display (see Image 1).
Searching the forums it the only similar issues have either been with a badly seated CM3 or with solder on the SODIMM slot pins, neither seem to be my issue.(see image 3 and 5)

If I turn the device ON then OFF shortly after it stays on, but if i wait long enough before turning the device OFF it will turn off, would that mean its booting up enough to run the safe shutdown and that the screen is the issue? Im guessing not as it does seem to turn of immediately when it gets to that point.

The lights also change after being on for about 30 seconds(ACT becomes solid and FAN stops lighting up) See Image 2

Because of all the similar issues i could find relating to white screen being to do with the compute module, I'm guessing mine is to, unfortunately i don't think i have anything else to try the module in or another module to try in this.

Any suggestions on what i could do to work out what's wrong?

So it defiantly seems like the screen, i bought a mini HDMI plugged that in and that showed up the rpi logo, so im guessing everything else is ok.

Where is the IC that initializes the screen? ill see if the solder connections are all good.

The ribbon connection looks good

Here is what happens when i plug the mini HDMI in:

When first turned on, this is what displays on the screen

then after 20 seconds or so it displays this:

So it doesn't look like the issue is with the pi at all.
Oddly safe shutdown doesn't seem to work after the device has been booted with the screen plugged in.

Is it the software on the sd card that sends the initialize to the screen? or is it all in hardware?
