[Solved] No LCD Output and Power Switch Not Working (Unit just power on)

Post by Todd5314 » Wed Jan 31, 2018 11:34 pm

Hi all -

Last Q for tonight -

I made it through to soldering the Pi to the board testing all the way and things seemed good.

When I got to the LCD test step (I.e. Done) I don't see any LCD output - HDMI works, just not LCD. It powers on with backlight just no output.

So I went back and post holed the board again, no luck. And the switch stopped working. The board now just powers on all the time, no switch or backboard needed.

How screwed am I?

Thoughts?

Todd

You say HDMI works, I assume you are using a 'stock' raspbian image downloaded from the raspbian website? If so that's good :)

In order for the LCD to work you must use my image, the stock on won't display anything. OR if you have enabled HDMI by editing the files, make sure to change it back... if in doubt just re-flash the entire image again from my repo.

On all connections leading up to the power switch, check that inside the white connectors on the PCB that there aren't any bent pins?

Thanks for your help Kite - so close.

I don't see any bent pins. Any other ideas?

Right after I wrote this, I found the SAIO image instructions. I'll have to figure that out - seems a bit more complex (not super familiar with GitHub).

Thanks again for all your help and effort on this - it is awesome.

Got it - no idea how you got there, but I can do an image. Any other steps?

Any other ideas on the power switch? Is it a bridged connection somehow?

I'd need to see some pictures of everything :) I assume you're following the guide here: https://github.com/geebles/Super-AIO/wi ... SAIO-v0.6c

Show some pics of how it is now and I can point anything out that may need correcting. Ideally pictures of both sides with clarity where you have done soldering bits :)

Thanks - I am now :-(.

Started from an old link and the youtube video and got to LCD before I found the new guide...

Here are some pics - I can't see any bridges so I am concerned they are between the Pi0 & SAIO.

Do you have a clearer/better camera? Very hard to make out details :)

Have you soldered the 3.3v jumper?

Can you show a picture with the USB connected to the SAIO (the side port) With the switch OFF and also a picture with the switch ON. I'm interested in the side with all the LEDs.

Better pics attached -

Yep - I've soldered the jumper - pic below:

When I flip the switch on I have one extra blue LED - all the others stay on in both positions and the board boots in both (green led on other side).

Thanks again.

Hm, have you tried just plugging in the battery only?

Do you have a multimeter?

It appears like your pi doesn't actually boot? Have you got it to boot as you have connected it up? Near that BLUE led that comes on should be a green on when the Pi boots, also on the pi itself the green STS led will be flashing as it boots?

Have you updated the arduino firmware at all? (if you haven't, then don't, just leave as is for now)
