CSO - No longer charging
CSO - No longer charging
Hi again,
no idea what happened, I refrained from doing anything to the main board - but it does no longer charge a battery.
I tried a few different ones at different voltages and capacities (3.3V, 3.5V, 3.8V, 850mAh, 2000mAh) but the charging light does not light up anymore (and its not charging too ).
All I did lately was adding the fan. It was done quite cleanly and measuring it shows no issues - it also works as expected. I tried desoldering it without effect.
Any idea what went wrong?

Re: CSO - No longer charging
Could you post a picture (clear, bright, in focus) of the charging IC? It is the black square chip just above the battery connector. I have had an email of one other person who has had this.. could you let me know:
1. Does the CSO power/run on battery alone?
2. Does the CSO power/run on USB alone?
I probably need to be able to see it myself, but I'm suspecting that it's the charge IC going faulty.. I can of course repair that for free (send an email) and hopefully this is fairly isolated.. my only thoughts are that the charge rate is too high, or something that caused a large current spike has damaged it..
I
t might be possible to add a small heatsink on to it on the back of where the charge IC is (you can see where it is because there is a small cluster of 5x vias (little black holes) in a star shape) to possibly prevent, but it is unnecessary because it's meant to be thermally limited anyway!

Re: CSO - No longer charging
Hi Kite,
yes to both questions.
I made a post at the beginning where it did not start with just the external power (semi-boot, white screen, reset) - it does now though.
It also works when charging a battery externally.
Hope this picture works for you, I cannot see anything fried.
EDIT: the small blue led next to the red led (near the charging curcuit, that lights up once power is connected) blinks quickly when adding the battery

Yep all normal, I'm afraid I'm going to need to see it and most likely replace the charging IC! could you send me an email and we'll go from there

Re: CSO - No longer charging
Kite,
I'm having same issue... Did you find anything else out on this?
1. I have power on all rails with the battery plugged in.
2. I have no power on rails with just the USB plugged in.
I also can have both plugged in and no charge light.
I emailed you some pictures and can post them on here if need be.

Re: CSO - No longer charging
Hey again, kite. I think I have one with the same issue. It will run on battery and USB, but the charge light will not come on. And it will not charge any battery. I’ve tried multiple batteries. And I also tried them on my other CSO builds and they work fine. I am probably annoying by now. I have 7 CSO’s so I imagined I would have a few issues. Lol Thanks for your continued and quick support.

Yep sounds like it sorry! Rather annoying that there are a few failures like this, working on improving quality going forward! Could you send me an email and we'll sort out a replacementjermzz wrote: ↑Wed Mar 14, 2018 10:54 pmHey again, kite. I think I have one with the same issue.
