Post by jwoof » Fri Feb 23, 2018 4:28 am

I couldn't get on my home wifi, but I have a password that I some times mistype, So I set up a hotspot on my phone, I tried open, WPA2 and WPA PSK, only open was able to connect.

Mine connects ok to WPA2, maybe check in a terminal window that the keys are right? E.g. if you have funky symbols or anything perhaps the keyboard layout isn't the same? It'll also tell if capslock is on or not

I have you tried turning it off and on again ?
:D :D

I turned everything back on to try it out and it was connected to the phone network, when I was testing I set the password to 12345678.
It seems a bit random, it will show that error, but than on reboot it seems to auto connect.

The caps-lock key functions, but the light doesn't come on with the keyboard I am using.

The easiest way to resolve this, because I can pretty much guarantee the password you are entering in the UI is incorrect, is to use the wpa_supplicant.conf file in /boot.

Eject your microSD card, plug it into a reader and to your computer and create the file with the right credentials. Out of the box, some (all?) builds of RetroPie have a weird keyboard mapping issue that affects certain characters. Since the password is obfuscated when you enter it, you have NO idea this is happening.

Thats what I initially thought, It's why I created a 2nd access point using my phone with a simple password 12345678, and it still said it "unable to connect", but it did connect on reboot so clearly I typed the correct password so I think it's a minor raspbian bug, I should have tried the turn it off and on again before I bothered everyone here.

Just to confirm your suspicion, it failed to connect to my network as well.
I entered the password, it failed to connect and then rebooted - tada connection established :)

Quite strange, as you say probably put this down to a raspbian bug, I don't see it on mine but you seem to be able to consistently do it!
