Kites circuit sword: psp joystick question

So I've been lurking hoping someone would show pictures of their sword with joysticks so I could look at how they're wired but no one has yet. From what I understand you solder the joystick straight to the front where the joysticks being placed and then you connect the wires from the jst plug to somewhere on the board. Although I can't find anything on the board for the joystick wires to solder to. My only other guess would be to solder the wires to the front and then run them through the board and plug in the jst plug that way but it just doesn't seem right to me. If someone could clarify exactly where to wire what I'd appreciate it. Thanks

I don't have a circuit sword. But from looking at the pics of the 5th preorder it has two joystick connections up front. Woth X, Y, 3.3v and gnd pads. You can connect to 1 or both. As for the jst joystick connector on the back...is that needed, or is it meant to plug a specific type of joystick in.

I would say direct solder to the pads up front is what you will do.

Ok thanks. So just to be clear I won't be using the jst connector for my build with the psp joystick? It came with two sets of 4 wires in a jst male plug for the joysticks so I don't know if that means they're needed or that they're optional just keep options open.

Likely you can use one or the other. (Solder to the pads on the joystick and pcb, or use the jst and solder to the joystick only)

I can't see why you would need to use both at the same time.

Ok that's what I thought just wanted to make sure before I did anything. Thanks

The JST connectors allow you to glue the joystick in while still allowing you to remove the CSO from the shell. Otherwise they're kind of attached permanently! https://github.com/kiteretro/Circuit-Sw ... tick-Guide

Yea once I actually got in there it and started lining things up to be soldered it got pretty obvious and I felt kinda dumb for asking. Thanks for the help though it was nice for the reassurance at least lol.

yeah, not that it is pointed out, it's a simple choice why you would use the JST haha.

I plan on a much more in depth post with .stl files for now here is what I've done.

The 4 pin jst connectors go through holes in the board and connect on the other side.
