Hi guys,

Sorry if there is already a post along these lines here. But I want to add wireless charging support to my KITES AIO GBZ.

I've got an idea of how to do so, and the have sourced a few QI reciever coils that could fit where I want them to.

But here's the question...

Would I need one with the charging module like the adafruit one...

Or could I get away with just hooking up the coil straight to the AIO board via the live and ground through holes next to the USB charging slot?

The two solder holes next the the USB port were placed for this very use case it is connected to the power lines of the USB port, so the same rules apply to it.. you need to give it something like 4.5-5.5v for charging to work. According to that link:

"The receiver chip manages the coil so that you'll always get 5V and 500mA"

So you're good to go there! I think ALL of the charging receivers have a similar thing, where they output a fixed voltage (so they are not chargers themselves, and the CSO already has one built in, so you just need to give it power).

So I won't necessarily need one with the charging module? The reason I ask is I'm trying to make use of the cartridge, I feel like it needs to be doing something so I'm trying to find a coil that would fit in the shell.

Most of the ones that have the module are a little too big where as ones without are the perfect size.

You need some sort of driver board with it, the coil ON IT'S OWN won't work, it needs a little PCB that converts it to 5v. I think you have been calling it the 'charger' but it's just a regulator.. you could place that COIL with one of those driver boards and it would work

Just wanted to make sure what I was thinking was right.

You are correct it is a drive board, I was calling it a module as a few pages I was looking at were calling it that.
