Circuit Gem Sound

Post by omgitsaheadcrab » Mon Mar 04, 2019 12:32 pm

New day, new topic!

My gem was working, then it wasn't. Turns out continuity between a couple of pads was temperamental but it I pressed it down it worked again. After some re-soldering all was good and my gem rocks!.. except for the sound.

I wasn't expecting great sound from the little speaker but it is super crackly and just terrible. Anyone else have this? Can I change the alsa setting somehow to tame it?

How bad exactly? I would re-work the BLUE solder pads from the FAQ section on the wiki, it is likely a solder pad issue as the sound should be pretty clear, I mean there should be no crackling unless the source of the sound was bad. Also check speaker isn't pushing against something or is upside down

Took it apart, reseated the speaker and re-touched the blue pads and it seems to be working well now. 100% volume still causes crackling but anything less is good now - happy days!

Ok good good :) at least that's something! A replacement speaker *might* help at the top end, it could have been damaged in transport or when being supplied etc.. so if it ever annoyed you, perhaps look for an "N73 speaker" on aliexpress and find the one with the wires attached. Although it isn't guaranteed to solve it so just food for thought..
