(solved)power issue

Post by constipatedchicken » Fri Mar 22, 2019 8:17 am

i have the latest circuit sword with helders battery. everything was working fine last night. in fact i have used it to play through metroid fusion since building. this morning i went to turn it on and nothing. so i plugged it in to charge and the blue light flashed and immediately changed to a red light and the speaker chirped twice. everything booted up when plugged in but when unplugged nothing works. has anyone seen this issue?

Could you get a picture of how the battery is connected to the board?

after running through the initial setup the blue charge led does not come on with the battery plugged in and the circuit sword connected to the outlet.

With a multimeter, can you measure the voltage on the back of that battery connector on the PCB? If you do it WITHOUT the USB attached, and then WITH it attached, what are the readings?

could be the multimeter. it’s an auto ranging meter and it shows voltage bouncing around when it’s not connected to anything but when i check a fresh AA battery it goes to 1.6 and holds so i assume it works properly. there could be a short but it works properly when plugged in to usb. just no power with battery and it’s not charging.

Do you have another battery? It sounds like there is no actual connection on the battery wires.

If you have 'no battery' and you plug in the USB, the little charging IC tries to detect the battery presence by sending 4.2v to it and checking the resistance. It 'pulses' this so that explains the behaviour that you are seeing on your DMM.

If there was a battery connected, you would get a solid "3.9v" or whatever the battery voltage is. So, check your battery and use your DMM on the battery cable contacts themselves

may have found the problem. correct me if i am wrong but the part i have circled should be attached? if so should i try to solder it back myself or would it be safer to see if helder can help?

edit. when i plug the battery in and put pressure on that i have power so that is definitely the problem.
