I've got everything but the battery at the moment, I was wondering if it's safe to build it and use it without?
I don't want to kill anything!

Re: Use without battery?
It'll work without and not cause damage. If you're using the Circuit Sword (with CM3) you need to make sure that you have a 2.5A USB adapter as usually the battery absorbs the high current spikes (that would cause it to just reboot by itself).
One thing I will say though, is that the steps on the wiki are there for a reason, and part of it is to test the battery and charging capabilities! For something like the Circuit Sword Lite where you have to solder the Pi permanently, discovering that the charger doesn't work and you can't remove the Pi isn't as easy to repair when there isn't a Pi attached and the board can be replaced just something to be mindful of
