Installing a 3DS joystick onto a Circuit Sword

So I'm attempting my first build and need help installing a 3DS joystick. I see that it's 4 pins and I've seen previous posts explaining to de-solder the ribbon cable from the joystick and then to solder the 4 wires from the stick to the board. I want to make sure this is how you do it. I also ordered a 6 pin 0.5mm FFC FPC to 6P dip 2.54mm PCB converter board adapter but I think I may have ordered this in jest. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thank you

If you put it in the middle, and you have a recent-ish version of the board, you'll see that there is already an FPC connector just below that cutout hole in the middle :) otherwise snapping off that bit of plastic and soldering wires is the best way

That's what I figured just needed to make sure. 4 pin jst connectors should fit correct?

Yeh the kit included a couple, they are JST SH 4pin (1.0mm) connectors on the socket things
