4 player game with 4 usb gamepads

Hey guys,
I want to play a 4 player game (e.g. mario cart) over my zero with using a usb hub and 4 gamepads. My problem is, that what ever I try (RetroArch) the internal gamepad of my zero is always allocated as gamepad number one. So player one always has to play with the zero in the hands.
Anybody knows a simple way to deactive the controls of the zero (or set it to gamepad no. 5) for a fast 4 player gaming session?
(It's build with Kites Circuit Sword..)
