GBZ project - What to do after boot?

Hey

Okay, so the gbz works, I just need to know how to put games on it. I tried hooking up a keyboard via usb, but its not being detected. I had to remove the usb hub from the case due to minimal space, and I thought I could connect everything through the usb port on the side. Didnt work. I've also put together a micro usb to usb (f) adapter that I plugged straight into the pi, and that didnt work either.

What can / should I do next?

Any help is very appreciated. I'm very noob at this.

As far as your other issue can you elaborate more on what you have installed inside the GBZ? What pcb for the contols are you using? If it's Helder's all-in-one there is a thread in the lounge forum about support for his board. Additionally pics of your wiring will help some of the experts spot if something might be wired wrong.

That welcome screen in your pics normally tells you if a gamepad is detected. If you do not see it saying something like "1 gamepad detected" try holding one of the buttons or a key on the keyboard in for a few seconds. If it detects something a configure button menu will appear.

I'm having the same problem? I'm looking over my soldering and checking continuity now to see if I made a mistake....

There are a few different ways of doing this as another user has mentioned, some easier than others. If you have installed WiFi in your GBZ then they can be easily dragged and dropped in to the necessary folders via WinSCP or something similar, you just need to know your Pi's IP, username and password.
Alternatively (if your GBZ USB port is working) you can flash a USB drive call a folder 'retropie' and plug it in to the GBZ, RetroPie will then create a folder structure on the drive, drop ROM's in the folders and reconnect it.
Don't be mistaken like I was when I first started playing around with the Pi that you can plug your SD card into a Windows machine and drag and drop them that way, unfortunately Windows has an annoying habit of only reading the boot partition of the SD card, Linux and Mac read all the partitions and you can just drag and drop this way. I have an old laptop that I have loaded Linux on to for any RPi development as it makes things much easier. If you have a laptop that you want to keep windows on and don't have a spare, if you can spare 60Gb or more HDD space have a look at dual booting a Linux partition, it's nice and easy to do, there are plenty of guides online if you get stuck and it makes RPi development much easier.

Thanks for the input. I was hoping to get my USB port working, but there is no data connection that I can see. I should be able to connect a usb hub and then have a keyboard and usb plugged in to configure retropi, right?

This is my soldering. Pictures look rubbish, but there is decent contact according to my multimeter.





So I've tried two different things. Connected the side USB port to my RP as you can see with the soldered connections. The power wires are hooked up to a powerboost. The 2nd thing I tried was making a micro usb to usb (f) and plugging it directly into the rp0, but that didnt work either. Power is received, but no data. Is there keyboard support in retropi?

If you want to use an external port without a hub you need to use an OTG cable. Or make one yourself. Sounds like you are using a standard extension cable instead.
