Re: DoubleFlush's hazardous adventures!
the teensy acts as a keyboard/ controller. you can go without one by wiring the gba buttons directly to the gpio pins on the pi zero. also, take into account tiny shit you might need like switches, tactiles, cables, pot wheel, breakout boards etc

Re: DoubleFlush's hazardous adventures!
So, the easiest option would be a teensy?
i assume the most space-saving option would be to wire the buttons directly onto the zero's gpio, but is what you're saying that if i do this, there may not be enough pins for all the other components?

Re: DoubleFlush's hazardous adventures!
Update time:
I am relatively certain that i have it all covered now; I've done some research, and i believe i know what parts i need. I've ordered a few of the parts (screen, volume wheel, power switch and case. i'll post links below, for anyone interested), but i'm waiting on some supplementary funding to be able to afford all of the parts necessary.
Main board: https://www.adafruit.com/products/2885
Screen: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0045 ... UTF8&psc=1
Controller input: https://www.adafruit.com/products/2419
Buttons: I'll be using the ones that come with the case i've ordered. if i'm going to do X and Y buttons, i'll either take some off of some old console i have, or i'll look into getting some.
Power supply: https://www.adafruit.com/products/2465
Battery: https://www.adafruit.com/products/328 (it's a tossup between this one or the 2000mAh one, but i figure the size difference can't possibly be that big, and i believe the tradeoff for greater play-time will be good, so i'll make an attempt.
Audio: https://www.adafruit.com/products/3006 (this will do amplification in addition to functioning as a DAC, so i'll most likely be able to get stereo, provided i can fit this board)
Speaker: https://www.adafruit.com/products/1890
Usb: i don't plan on installing any a-type breakouts, and i hope to be able to position the zero so that the onboard micro are available from outside the case, but if necessary, i'll use this one https://www.adafruit.com/products/1833
Misc:
i'll use this volume pot https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00O9 ... UTF8&psc=1
this power switch https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B008D ... UTF8&psc=1
this case http://www.ebay.com/itm/221720802237?_t ... EBIDX%3AIT
this headphone out: https://www.adafruit.com/products/1699
and this sd reader (for roms. i'll use the onboard one for OS): https://www.adafruit.com/products/254
I can confirm that all the mentioned sellers ship to Norway, but outside of that, i cannot really make any promises.
And i believe that just about sums it up.
If anyone knows any reason why this won't work, please let me know!

Re: DoubleFlush's hazardous adventures!
I may be mistaken, but i believe Wermy's GBZ (the first one on youtube) used one SD slotted into the Zero, and one in the modded cartridge.

Ah, i see. And this is the one in the cartridge? Does he run his OS off this card? Could i use only the one on the Zero, or should i use an sd breakout?

You can use either-or..... Just not both at the same time.DoubleFlush wrote:Ah, i see. And this is the one in the cartridge? Does he run his OS off this card? Could i use only the one on the Zero, or should i use an sd breakout?

Re: DoubleFlush's hazardous adventures!
Excellent! Then, to save space (and a small amount of money), i will opt for the on-board reader.

A little late, but I wish you good luck on this project. Godspeed, my friend.
