Full VGA (640x480) 3.5" display - costum parts

Post by Enix » Wed Nov 09, 2016 7:14 am

Hello Everyone!
If any of you have some custom parts made for a Game boy Zero build using this type of screen, please share.
Would appreciate a lot, a 3d printed mount system for it or who knows, even a DPI connector. (@kite ?) :)
Have a great day!

DPI connector coming eventually.. this specific screen doesn't have a simple interface so a bit more work is needed.. also the datasheet is pretty vague (and chinese) and the Pi can't even generate some of the signals (so other ICs need to be used).. It would be great if the Pi DSI connector had more compatible screens..

Hello @kite. Any news on the DPI connector for a 640x480 screen? :)
(I know you are a very busy man. Thank you.)

Hey :) I haven't had a chance to finish off the schematic (been pretty busy) but I'll let you know when I've got something to show! I have actually found another LCD which is 800x480 which would fit, it's 16:10 (rather than 4:3 which the 640x480 is) which means it'll be more widescreen.. the benefit is that it's WAY cheaper ($12 in single qty) and also WAY easier to adapt (the 640x480 is a big pain, I won't go into details until I've actually cracked it!) :) So we'll see!

Hey @Kite, in your research did you try the adafruit 2.8" screen? (yes it's 320x240 I know) I'm having a hard time telling from the datasheet if it is a DPI display or some other data protocol custom to it (it's 50 pin with SPI and touch screen interfaces in the ribbon).

if not have you seen any other 2.8" DPI screens? I'd prefer that size in my build than the 3.2 everyone uses which pushes into the rounded corner (I really don't like that...)
