Veteran's 1st GBZ (No Hot Glue) Completed
firstly i'd like to thank
wermy
dominator
Helder
Camble
abrugsch
and last but not least the Sudomod community
finally received my safe shutdown, so the final assembly can be done (still some tweaks to be made)
I epoxy'd some 3d printed parts that will hold the usb socket, tactile buttons, powerboost and power socket (using a 3.5mm not usb) most of these will be held in with VHB tape this will eliminate the use of hot glue.
not sure how durable it will be, but one thing is certain that it will not be a messy look and i will not have to worry about heat softening the glue
i'm also using JST connetions for the wiring between the housings (front & Back)
everything is ready to be installed, just trying to figure out where to put a couple of led (one for power the other for charging/charged)
i've also re-used the original screw post by epoxying them into the 3d printed screen holder also made a holder for the volume wheel...
also was able to install the screen adjustment board (replaced the original buttons with shorter buttons, so their more flush with the shell)
been really busy, but managed to find 5 mins to start getting the safe shutdown ready to test/install
just the pi zero w left to install and a few wires to solder (ohh and the power socket)
ignore the the bottom left (audio issues were just a headache, it works and thats all that matters for now)
everything installed
case closed
still got one or two things to do, like install 2 leds for power & charging/charged.... also gonna get the cartridge reader done...
gonna let my son stress test it for a bit, before i open it up again
installed some leds
1 x blue for power on
1 x red & green for charging and charged (bi-colour led)
onced charged will upload it lit green
just the cart reader left

Looks like a great start to your build (waiting for the parts to start my own soon). May I ask what battery you ended up going with? I like that yours fits into the battery compartment without having to cut it away, and it precisely how I'd like to accomplish mine.

https://www.aliexpress.com/item/Dual-ha ... 0.0.JUsMTA
i got mine from this seller on aliexpress, i actually bought it for a couple of dollars less (the price for some reason goes up & down quite a bit) so if you have an account put it in your cart and it will go down after a bit...
second option if you wanna keep the battery compartment is to keep an eye on this thread

the preorder is closed, but aparently some will be available once he has them in hand
good luck with your build

Thanks for the link! For some reason, that particular seller wants to charge about $40 to ship, so I may have to keep looking, haha. Does help to see the measurements of that one though and see if I can find something comparable.VeteranGamer wrote: ↑Wed Apr 12, 2017 1:15 pmhttps://www.aliexpress.com/item/Dual-ha ... 0.0.JUsMTA

I did see the thread to that sudomod battery pack. I'll keep an eye out for that as well.

Would this be a good option for fellows like myself who are not the best (brand new) to soldering?

Re: VeteranGamer 1st GBZ (No Hot Glue)
the safe shutdown switch/module/board allows you to shutdown your retropie at the flick of a switch.... if you dont want one you manually have to shutdown via the menus...
one thing to note SD cards can become corrupted if they are not used properly or over used (reading/writing) or just poor quality... one way this could even happen is if you continually fail to shutdown your system properly (just cut the power)
for me it was a no brainer, as this build is for my son... but its not vital for everyones build (it is a nice touch just to turn it on and off from the switch)

theirs two types, the variant depends on the type of power boost you have...
