Posible alternative...
i've never had Altoid mints (and to be honest didn't even knew they existed until wermy used a tin)
but i really like the project (nice one wermy), so started looking at posible alternative tins
came across these...
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Empty-Tin-Hin ... 2668943806
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Altoid-Size-T ... SwgApXDPWP
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/5-x-Altoid-Si ... 2579836336
may not be to everyones liking, but i'm really feeling the windowed tin (customisation posiblities)
just about to finish my GBZ.... so as soon as wermy spills the beans on the mintypi, i'm straight on it....

Re: Posible alternative...
Yep, I think Adafruit sells these blank tins as well. I was planning on mentioning it in the guide for folks who might not be able to get an actual Altoids tin (or want a blank one).VeteranGamer wrote: ↑Thu Apr 13, 2017 3:15 pmi've never had Altoid mints (and to be honest didn't even knew they existed until wermy used a tin)

Re: Posible alternative...
Pi hut sells pi zero bundles in similar tins too. Though they might be a bit smaller. I'll compare them when I get back home.

Re: Posible alternative...
ordered a couple of the blank tins of ebay (other sellers/options are available)
only £1.79 ($2.25) delivered
really like the windowed tin, gonna customise it...
just hope the dimensions are about that of the altoid tin (fingers crossed)

Re: Posible alternative...
what are the dimensions of the altoids tins @wermy?
I'm not 100% certain the UK ones are exactly the same...

Re: Posible alternative...
found this online....
not sure how spot on it is
these were the dimensions of mine as listerd (haven't measured mine to be certain) mine was listed as altoid size
3¾" x 2⅜" x ⅞" (96mm x 60mm x 21mm)
i dont think a mm here or there will matter that much, i wasnt expecting mine to be exact ... the 3d printed parts can be adjusted before you print, as long as everything fits in it should be ok
these are the dimensions of the tin available from adafruit (as listed)
Mint tin dimensions:
Top lid outer (not lip): 2.36" (59.9mm) x 3.75"(95mm)
Tin bottom: 2.3" (58.75mm) x 3.7"(93.9mm)
Inner: 2.24" (56.9mm) x 3.6"(91.5mm)
Height bottom section: 0.83" (21.28mm)
Height top section: "0.36 (9.26mm)
Corner radius .55" (14mm)
i'm assuming that the pi Hut tin would be the same, as they didnt bother to list any but have the exact same product images as adafruit
they look the same (dimensions) as the tins i bought of ebay (which were cheaper)

Re: Posible alternative...
I think this may be close but quite enough.
52.08mm x 93.5mm
Depth with lid 20.8mm
Lid depth 6.6mm
Container depth 19.65mm
I don't know how to measure corner curves.

Re: Posible alternative...
I'm not sure how or if the tins differ in different countries, but here are some measurements from the models I made (which fit nicely in the tins I have but don't necessarily represent exact measurements of the tin itself):
Lid/screen model: 89.5mm x 55mm x 6.3mm, with a corner radius of 14.9mm
Bottom: 91.5mm x 57.5mm x 13.55mm, with a corner radius of 12.5mm
Keep in mind the lid needs some room at the hinge to close, so you can't have the entirety of the lid taken up by the screen or whatever.
Still working on finalizing some stuff with Helder before releasing actual models/designs. Excited to share it with you guys!

Re: Posible alternative...
(outer measurements taken with a ruler, not a caliper...)
UK altoids:
lid: 94mm x 59mm x 8mm (all slightly bigger) corner radius 13.5/14mm
base: (inner measure of rolled edge) 90mm x 54.5mm x 19.5mm x radius 9mm (this is what the lid model needs to fit inside of so looks like UK 'oids tin is the same as the US one despite different printing.
Pi Hut tin:
lid not hinged
base inside rolled edge: 84mm x 56mm x 17.5mm corner radius 7mm
so it looks like Pi hut tin is not quite right
