tinkerBOY's first Game Boy Zero build - from the Philippines

Post by tinkerBOY » Fri Jul 07, 2017 12:11 am

Here is my first Game Boy Zero build. I'm using the GPIO pins for the buttons instead of the teensy which I think is very easy to setup.

I placed the micro usb charger port just under the audio jack which makes it hardly noticeable. The PWM Audio is built using this guide.

Instead of the usual HDMI port in the "CONTRAST", i positioned the Raspberry Pi Zero's sdcard port in there. And also a low battery led light in the "DC6V" where the usual micro usb port is placed. I built the simple low battery led using this one which draws very little current.

I used two separate modules for the 5V Boost converter and the 3.7V Battery charger because its way cheaper than the Adafruit Powerboost.

The 3.7V battery charger has two led indicators when charging and fully charged so i just placed it inside the battery compartment which makes the led light visible from outside the battery cover.

GPIO Setup GuideShow
I made a simple script to automate the task of setting up the GPIO controller buttons with Adafruit's retrogame utility software.
Thanks a lot to @wermy and the rest of the sudomod community! :)

Thanks also to:
@Helder for the low battery led indicator,
@SP33 for the PWM audio guide,
adafruit.com for the GPIO guide.

Best Regards

Looks good! I like the micro USB port placement - it's always interesting to me to see unconventional ways of doing things. Great work!

Would you mind reposting the Adafruit GPIO link? It's broken and I'm interested to learn how that's done. Also where did you order the 5v boost and battery charger? Thanks!
