BW Screen displays white screen

Post by xSP » Tue Jul 18, 2017 7:36 pm

So i've taken apart the BW screen from Amazon and converted it to run off of 5v and after getting it glued into place the screen displays a white image. If I touched the ribbon cable the screen would flicker back and display an image. I decided to re-seat the cable and now all I get is a white screen and if I touch the ribbon cable nothing happens. Is there an easy fix to this or is the ribbon cable damaged and im out of luck?

I had the same issue with the one of the two BW screens i bought from Amazon. Tested it unmodded with a 12v power supply and also got the white screen issue. I opened it up and just re-seated the ribbon cable and that fixed mine.

Did you test yours before gluing it?

Yep tested it with the raspberry pi before gluing and it worked fine, how hard was it to open it up? Now that I think about it, some glue got on the ribbon cable and I took it off so maybe the cable came loose on the inside?

it was a little hard prying up the screen case since there were no screws.

You just have to re-seat again yours. Be careful with the thin plastic that locks the ribbon.

Re-seated the ribbon cable and nothing changed, at this point im just assuming that the screen is dead.

checkout the connector pins that are soldered on the board (the clip for the ribbon) in any case, you must prevent getting glue over /inside these pins.
Also, you meight check both sides at the top of the lcd is there if no little cut in the ribbon cable going to the glass itself.
Often, the first thing i do is apply tape/kapton over ribbons to prevent them from ripping at the points they enter the metal casing/glass of the screen.
Anyway, for that amount of money i wouldn't pry around with such a thing, and order another one. the gearbest ones are very nice and cheap and less blurry as the Bw ones.
