Re: Custom ES Theme for 3.5" GBZ Screens

@zeroboy

That's odd.

I want to say that it's some sort of artifacting in the GPIO driver, but I remember seeing something similar once before while testing the theme on EmulationStation on Windows. I didn't have the color artifacting, but the top half of letters were getting shifted to the side a pixel or two. However, that was on a different variant of my theme that I'd been working on for bigger widescreen displays. Then it went away without me changing anything, and I couldn't reproduce it again.

Maybe it's a RetroPie/EmulationStation glitch? Or maybe there's some display driver glitchiness where it isn't redrawing changed pixels correctly? I'm not sure -- sorry.

I tried other themes and i seem to get the same "artfacting" distortion. Maybe because of the jumper wires? Your theme looks fine when the same lcd is connected via composite.

Jumper wires, above all if you got them from China, are really poorly made. The material used does not offer the best contact, the wires are cheap, the connectors also. Wire your screen directly with a good soldering and you will say goodbye to your artifacts

Yeah im thinking of wiring it directly for testing. The jumper cable/wires i bought are really crappy indeed. Several cables i tested have no continuity.

Do you know any good quality jumper wires/cables?

No i don't know any supplier for good jumper wires. All i know is that when i started my build, i thought about jumper wiring everywhere to make the build more versatile and maintainable but from all i have read on the net, for our needs (data transfer mainly, not only current like when powering something) the use of jumper wire is not recommended, so i forgot that idea without testing and spending money and time for nothing.

I just tried it on a completely new image, different pi zero, carbon theme through an hdmi lcd and the delay is still there.
Over the last couple weeks, I see that there's been a lot of back-and-forth in RetroPie's codebase regarding a new power saving mode, which has an effect on video playback.

If you haven't updated all packages in RetroPie-Setup in the last 3 days, you could try that. On August 11th, I see that they made a change in powersaving modes that directly references delays/timing and video playback.

If all else fails, you could try going into the Power Saving menu under Other Options and disabling PowerSaver, or changing its mode (assuming you're running a version of RetroPie from July 25th or later).

Might work. Might not.

I think this power saving stuff deserves a look, it sounds like being a plausible cause

I tried both dark and light version but text are a little rugged and some red/yellow color on the edges. Im using it on a screen in 24bit or 18bit DPI mode.
That's a 320 composite screen right? try a 640 screen and it won't have issues.

@ YaYa ,
got it right here without any update, even with a very old version.
hope it works for you guys

320x240 in DPI mode not composite.

Ok i have updated retropie but still the same no matter what power saving option i chose. Also, many game roms are now not being recognized by ES.
