New BW Variant - InnoLux 5v MOD DONE

Post by moosethemucha » Tue Oct 03, 2017 12:48 am

Hi there I just received my BW screen and I can't seem to find the board on the wiki (http://www.sudomod.com/wiki/index.php?title=GBZ_Screen) - I belive its very doable. I found a data sheet for the board (http://www.datasheet4u.com/download_new.php?id=707670)

Your Help in working this would be appreciated.

Board Details:

I just wanted to point out that some of the pins for the display ribbon cable are bridged on the board via solder - from what i can tell its ok because if you trace the cable those points are connected in the cable

Please let me know if you want more information. Also I happy to post the guide to the Wiki once its finished.

Ok So looking at the other side of the board there is a 5v point on the board

Which I've got working - Now I traced it back to a couple of points back on top - specifically to the JW5002s 2A, 20V Synchronous Step-Down Converter on PIN 3. Ill Draw up a better image. If anyone can see a problem with this please let me know.

The voltage regulator is this one: http://www.datasheetspdf.com/PDF/JW5022/1101093/2

It's the eight pin chip in the corner of the board, if you attach your 5v wire to the BST pin it should work. I got the same screen in the post today, and it took me 10 minutes to read the chip's name because the text was SO TINY!

Did you get it working? I can't seem to get mine to work at 5v, even when bypassing the regulator.

EDIT: Got it working, just had to connect it to SW, not BST.

I have 2 of this variant now, and am trying to get them to work, but having some trouble.

I have connected my power line to pin 3 of the step down converter.

After doing that, the display works fine, as long as my power has voltage > 5.3V. If my voltage drops below 5.3V, the display starts to be covered in white stripes and not function well.

Has anyone else experienced this? Is there potentially another modification to actually allow the screen to work down as low as 5V or possibly a little lower? I plan to look through the datasheet for the step down converter as well, but any help would be appreciated.

Can you provide a photo of your mod, so we can update the wiki?

The mod I did is the same as the one on the wiki for the InnoLux screen...

It's just not working right for me with voltages under 5.3V.

Have you tried removing the chip entirely? Most people seem to get much more stable results after doing so. I have removed the regulator chip entirely from all of my builds.

I have not tried that yet, no.

Have you done that with this variant?
