Hey!
I put together a little NES case Raspberry Pi 3 recently but as a Nintendo Switch owner I'm totally spoiled and now want everything to be portable!! Haha, addicted to Metroid Fusion amongst everything else! But want to make a Gameboy version...
I already own an original Gameboy but Wermy's tutorial on that looked insanely hard when it got to scratching out lines on the circuit board etc.
I know there are a couple of guys on here who are doing pre-orders for AIO's and Kite's looks crazy! But it'd mean waiting till February
I was wondering if anyone has ever made one using one of the kits here from Zeroboy - https://www.zeroboy.eu/produkt/zeroboy- ... ontroller/
If I buy this what parts would I still need? The Screen and buttons of course but it's things like the power modifier etc that I don't think I'd understand
Willing to buy one of Kite or Helder's AIO's but gutted that it'd be such a wait. It really seems like there's no other way though on the whole internet haha.
Thankyou!!
Brand new to this idea and after some help please!

massive list below, i've never used that board, but see below, hopefully I didn't miss much:
hey, i've never used the zeroboy boards, but I have used many of these:
http://www.ebay.ca/itm/Gameboy-DMG-01-4 ... SwAFNZm4fq
With that I would solder to the pi zeros GPIO's following this guide:
viewtopic.php?t=57
I would buy this screen (no mods necessary):
https://www.gearbest.com/development-bo ... tml?wid=21
and this power boost:
https://www.banggood.com/3Pcs-5V-1A-Cha ... ds=myorder
and this audio amp:
https://www.banggood.com/3Pcs-PAM8403-M ... ds=myorder
of course you will need some switchs, buttons, 3d parts, battery, and a case all of which can be found on ebay/aliexpress
I recommend this for the screen and button wells:
viewtopic.php?t=2553
I also have used these screen covers too:
https://handheldlegend.com/collections/ ... ass-screen
and these for the shoulder buttons:
viewtopic.php?f=38&t=3805
here is a good battery:
http://www.mbuynow.com/4800mah-replacem ... p-843.html
here are some power switches:
http://www.ebay.ca/itm/5-Pcs-x-6mm-High ... 486a8d9072
and some volume wheels:

Re: Brand new to this idea and after some help please!
Such a great answer thank you!
I think what's getting me is just the amount of variation, I've watched Wermy's tutorials a tonne, that paired with your screen which seems a lot easier to use, I think I'm happy with that part, I think the biggest thing for me is understanding the battery stuff
I really like the idea of what you mentioned in one of your posts about not using a volume wheel, I'm not too concerned about having it and I'm not even sure that I'd be all that fussed on having a headphone jack enabled, I would just use the speaker, I never know if doing that would make the wiring easier or harder ha, I guess it helps to have more of an understanding of how the wiring works so I'll keep reading it as much as I can!
One question I guess is, have you ever tried using a bluetooth controller to play it too? would be pretty cool if plugged in via HDMI on the TV to be able to still play 2 player games.

i've never done it, but the zero w's have built in bluetooth, so using a bluetooth controller is possible. It is also possible to orient the pi in the case so the mini HDMI port is accessible through the contrast port.

Re: Brand new to this idea and after some help please!
I am following this closely.. this will be my very first attempt at making a gameboy zero too. i do have a question rodocop the battery link you provided is for a cell phone battery is it easy to convert to work with the pi zero? not really sure how that works... i am a noob in every sense of the word as a matter of fact this will be my first attempt at soldering as well.. as for everything else im literally putting your suggestions in the cart and pulling the trigger ive been watching wermys build on youtube for reference but in his first build he ripped apart an old gameboy and in his other youtube vid he used a board by helder which is sold out . so the pcb you have suggested is in the cart as well. sorry for the rambling just excited is all. is this a complete parts list ?

Yes it is a cellphone battery, you can solder directly to the battery (carefully.) Or you use a pogo pin like this:honorabledaddy wrote: ↑Sun Nov 05, 2017 2:47 amI am following this closely.. this will be my very first attempt at making a gameboy zero too. i do have a question rodocop the battery link you provided is for a cell phone battery is it easy to convert to work with the pi zero? not really sure how that works... i am a noob in every sense of the word as a matter of fact this will be my first attempt at soldering as well.. as for everything else im literally putting your suggestions in the cart and pulling the trigger ive been watching wermys build on youtube for reference but in his first build he ripped apart an old gameboy and in his other youtube vid he used a board by helder which is sold out . so the pcb you have suggested is in the cart as well. sorry for the rambling just excited is all. is this a complete parts list ?

If you have never soldered before I would suggest reading this guide and practicing a bit first:

As for parts. There are other things not in that post that you may need. Like buttons, silicone pads, micro usb port etc.. double check the wiki for other parts needed:
