Gaboze Pocaio, no silicon pads [Update]

Post by Ely » Wed Aug 15, 2018 6:56 am

Hello Everyone.
It's my first post here and I wanted to share some tips i found on the Gaboze Pocaio.

But first I want to say thanks to 32Teeth for this nice and fun project and Thanks to Lphillimore for his well documented posts which help me a lot.
I've followed the Gaboze Wiki and this 2 posts from Lphillimore:
https://www.sudomod.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=6152
https://www.sudomod.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=6325

I did a build with X/Y/L/R buttons, a function button and a thin 1830mah battery with an ADS1015.
I had many problems with the silicon pads for A/B/X/Y, I tried different pads without a great succes, most of the time, i've got unresponsive buttons or a bad feeling under the fingers.

I tried to get ride of them and used soft silicon tactile switchs instead.

And with some minor case modifications I finally got responsive buttons without the need to press hard on them :)
Here what i've done:

You need to trim a little bit under the tactile switch there is 4 little squares, just remove them so the button will be perfeclty flat on the Gaboze board. You also need to put something round in your A/B/X/Y buttons like a plastic you cut from the screen protection or it wont press the soft silicon tactile switch properly.

Here the rest of the build:

[UPDATE]Start and Select Mod

As I've also got a terrible experience with Start and Select Silicon pads, I tried to make them more responsive with SMD switches and screws.
It's another Frankenstein solution, the Start and Select buttons will become "Clicky" but they will work any time you press them.
The purpose of the screw is to help pushing on the SMD switch, without it, it wont work.
If you dont like the clicky feeling, don't worry, it's easy to desolder the SMD switchs :)
When you solder switchs, try to be as much as possible on the center of the PCB button.
I used this : https://www.aliexpress.com/item/100Pcs- ... 55369.html

Take your time and take care of your fingers when you drill the silicon pad, go slowly :)

For Start and Select I used this:
https://www.aliexpress.com/item/100Pcs- ... 55369.html

They have a clicky feeling but they work each time you push start or select :)
I'll post this weekend the pictures and modification you have to do if you want to use them.
