so i started drilling the holes for X & Y buttons 3 weeks before chirstmas.... first one came out great the second i must have hit a wrong angle or something because it shifted 3 mm to the right.... *facepalm*

so i ordered a new shell and it came in last week so i can give it a second try.

the upside of this i have a test shell now so i can experiment on getting i high glos clear shell :)

pics will follow forgot to take them

shell isn't ready yet the shell will be sanded and clear coated for a high gloss look then i will apply some decals (might get it UV printed) and then a last coat of clear. the front buttons will get some images on them as well in the theme of the decals.

also forgot to take a picture of the back with holes...

Did some test sanding my failed shell.

with the dremel it went way to fast and the shell sort of melted on some places.
result with dremel:

after that i tried sanding it with hand with a much better result was nice and smooth when sending with 1200grid. wasn't finished but i saw this would work so i stopped and just photographed it. ordered some automotive clear coat for the next tests.
result sanding by hand:

The really nice clear cases I've seen... no sanding is required.

Either way make sure you use adhesion promoter

sanded the battery cover

back of the shell

some liquid on the sanded part to see if it would give the desired effect.

it looks glossy enough so the back of the shell is ready for its clear coat

The clear shells look amazing! that is for sure.

Here is some work from Zoki64 - he does not sand them prior to spraying paint.

From my conversation with Zoki64 on etsy "Its clear plastic primer, binder/intercoat clear and topped with clear coat. Clear coat needs that for proper adhesion."

I believe he needs the intercoat/binder to help cover his artwork. If you are going straight clear you just need the adhesion promoter (plastic primer).

thats were i got the idea from. but like most of them they didn't respont to my questions so i had to invent the wheel again :).

i'm doing a print on the clearcoat and then seal it again with a clearcoat.

i'm first trying a waterslide decal as there arent any UV printers around where i live.... not close anyway
