Upcoming Retroflag GBZ Case
Upcoming Retroflag GBZ Case
That´s an quite interessting commecial progress for this community...
Retroflag is about to announce a GBZ Case for a Raspberry Pi0 or PI0W.
Complete with display, 4 front buttons, 2 shoulder buttons, volume wheel and more. Powered by 3 AA batteries. The PI comes into some sort of cartridge.
I have to say, the shoulder button design looks awesome.
It´s a little bit smaller than a DMG

Re: Upcoming Retroflag GBZ Case
I also saw that....
it looks like a nice product....
great for the beginners that want a very easy build and to have a Pi Zero Game Boy.....
out of the whole thing...
I like the back buttons
its smaller than a Standard DMG.... it might even feel better in the hand
I have a feeling their price is going to be pretty decent as well (based on their other products)
(i predict around the £50-60, give or take a tenner)
I'll most probably get one ....

Re: Upcoming Retroflag GBZ Case
Would be nice if they released the shell by itself so we can redesign our own boards for drop in replacement. Might get one too to add to the collection

Don't contact me about obtaining my board files (as you will not get them). If my Boards or PCB Kits are sold out, they will be restocked as soon as I can get them and there is demand for them. You can join the mailing list on my Website to be notified when they are available.

We will not support any cloned work so don't come to us with technical issues to resolve, go talk to the cloner for help.

Re: Upcoming Retroflag GBZ Case
It could be...
But it’s got to using something like a 2.8” LCD which only cost a few dollars wholesale...
And I can’t see them using any other really expensive components
The most expensive thing in that build is gonna be the housing/shell...
If you look at their other cases for how they’re put together and what they have in them...
And then look at the cost of them...
Even if this is gonna be double the price...
That only puts it at around £50-60 (again give or take a tenner)....
Especially as it won’t be coming with a Raspberry Pi...
It could just end up having...
SPI LCD (possibly DPI)
PWM audio (maybe i2s audio)
GPIO controls
(or some sort of USB controller replicator if it’s DPI)
I can’t see them putting in a USB hub (but they could, it’s still possible)
And that’s it
With some kind of shutdown circuit
But as it’s running of the Pi Zero it can’t be that complex...
It will be interesting to see if they provide an image for it...
Or expect the end user to do that themselves
And it doesn’t come with a battery because it runs on AA
So it will have to have a low power draw to get some sort of decent battery life....
But It will be interesting to see what they put into it...
If it’s something different (which I doubt it)...
Maybe it can be used in the DIY builds

Re: Upcoming Retroflag GBZ Case
It's obviously using a USB device for maybe the controller inputs or audio or both but you need a usb hub for that and it looks like there's no hub. ETA Prime mentioned it in its video that there were static with the sound so it might be using just PWM for audio or just a crappy amplifier.
