Speaker not working on Circuit Sword Lite

Post by TeeReQs » Sun Aug 04, 2019 11:58 pm

Just built up my CSL, and everything is working great except the speaker. I get sound from the headphone jack, but nothing from the speaker. I've tried the stock speaker as well as a VECO with the same results. With the speaker unplugged and system turned on I'm getting a voltage reading of .281v on the (-) pad and .181v on the (+) pad. I came across another thread that mentioned that they should be 1.6v each. Anybody have any insight on what could be my issue? Thanks!

Could you take a picture of the area at the bottom of the board where the headphone jack and amp is (the black chips near it)?

Hm looks ok, could you take a picture of the other side of the headphone jack? If you poke the jack itself, do any of the solder pads move like they have been ripped/disconnected from the main board? Does everything else function on the CSL as intended (safe shutdown, button inputs, etc)?

I attached a picture of the backside of the headphone jack. Its solid with no movement at the solder pads. I get sound through earbuds when plugged into the jack, just no external sound from the speaker.

Everything else works great as far as I can tell: safe shutdown, all buttons including shoulder buttons, mode button, etc. I haven't tried the USB port, but the little dip switch is set to it being off.

Ok all looks good.

On the other side, where the audio amp is, do you see the capacitors C17 and C18? It looks like on the top side they have a little bit of solder in the wrong place joining them. With a soldering iron, try and carefully remove this join and see if that's causing it

I see that too now that you mention it. I'll take a closer look once I get home, and see if that is the issue.

Thanks!
