Circuit swords not booting

Post by petergil » Mon Aug 12, 2019 4:02 pm

I received two circuit swords in October 2018 and (finally) got around to putting them together. However, I've run into some issues.

Everything in the 'Set Up' guide on github seems to work (except the battery part, as I haven't received them yet..), up until the step where you are supposed to boot into the testing mode. On both boards I get just a grey screen with an arrow on it, like in this post: viewtopic.php?f=51&t=6768

I have tried two different sd cards, two different usb-c chargers, and tried both compute modules in both circuit sword boards with no luck for any combination.

It seems unlikely to me that both boards / compute modules are broken so maybe I'm doing something wrong? Or maybe it's not possible to run the boards without a battery connected?

Which software image have you put on the SDs? Do you have the link to the one used? The arrow is just a protective sticker on the LCD.
Could you let me know the version printed on the main board?

I put the image in the file Circuit-Sword-Software-v1.3.2.zip found at https://github.com/kiteretro/Circuit-Sw ... v1.3.2.zip.

The unzipped file is named rpi-4.4-rpi2_rpi3-wifi_CSO_CM3_20190131-213239.img with an md5sum of ff72ef7d95d29fe476fb96782cd3d23a

The version on the main board is 1.3A.

Could you show a picture of how it is all connected up?

This is how one of them looks:

The other one is the same.

I notice that the pgood LED blinks a bit when it first gets power but then it turns off.

Hm everything looks fine.. do you have another SD to try? Also if you put the imaged SD into your PC again, does a 56MB drive appear? And if you opened up the drive are there a bunch of files with one of them being "config-cs.txt" ?

Yes, I tried it with the same image with the card that you can just see in the top of the picture.

Yes, that part seems correct.

Just for fun I then tried to put the sd card (with the circuit sword image on it) into a regular raspberry pi and as far as I can tell from the logs it booted, got an ip address, and then resized the / partition to fill up the rest of the SD card. So the sd card seems fine.

Ok thanks for answering all my questions! I just wanted to be sure of some common things before going through the returns process! :) Could you please send me an email to kite@kiteretro.com and I will let you know the returns process and I'll get both those boards fixed up for you.

I'm having this same issue with two 2018 boards as well that I'm finally putting together. I tried the same SD card on two other older older builds and it worked fine.

Bump.

I have two 2018 CM3 boards that don't work. I get nothing but a grey screen. The same SD card works in a March 2018 board. I just swamped out the CM3 boards with the older one and it worked (see my build in showoff).
