I don't have a hot air station. What is the screen model number? I will simply order a new one. Also, I heard that Helder's next batch of PCBs will come with a pre soldered screen. Is this true?

It is but not 100% sure yet till next week when I get some samples from the fabricator to see how well it comes out. You can order similar screens by searching for 2.4inch ILI9341 SPI screen without touch screen.

Blank LCD

Post by matkeller19 » Fri Aug 25, 2017 10:27 pm

First of all, I am sure all of the soldering joints are working. When I tried booting my MintyPi up, I get a powered on LCD (the backlight works as it is lit up with black) but I get no video output. I tried both the pre-made image and the setup script provided by wermy. It does, however, work over HDMI, further confusing me on what to do. If anyone can help, big thanks to you :D

This happened to me too at first. Make sure you have continuity on every pin hole. Also, are you using the premade retropie image that wermy provided?

I believe this can be caused by the ribbon cable going from the screen to the breakout board to be misaligned. Also, it sounds more like a hardware issue than a software issue.

Would it make more sense to order yours or order a new screen? Will yours be compatible with my current setup?

Yes likely a gpio not making continuity and or pin misalignment. Why do people post LCD issues in the software section? I already moved another person's new thread about a common problem in the HARDWARE section, since the OP has some uncertainty in his posting about the soldering it's likely a hardware issue.

Here's the status:

I've checked and rechecked all my GPIO joints. All are good except select. I believe I have a faulty button. I have tested every possible orientation I can find for the screen, but it seems to be irreparably damaged. : ( I plan to wait until Helder's next batch of PCBs come in so I can have a fresh start with proper knowledge of what I am dealing with. Thanks to everyone who helped! I really love this community.

Damaged as in you ruined the pins? If they are still there it can be used but likely you don't have the tools or skill to fix it. I can likely fix it and solder it to the board for you but I'm going to have to start charging for this. If interested PM me and post pictures of your screen ribbon.
