Adafruit screen - accidentally dropped few components

Post by slicknick654 » Mon Sep 26, 2016 10:23 pm

Image

was attempting to solder off the main chip on the adafruit screen, accidentally took off 2 circuits/chips (circled in pic) along with it :(
I did recover both pieces, just not sure if i should slab a blob of solder and put them back on or if i'm doomed.

Any advice on how to salvage the board? This is my first hardware project so im a complete newb.

Thanks for the help
Nick

you could try to put the resistors back in place. Don't mix them up and soldering SMD type things with a normal solder iron is kind of tricky. Why didn't you trained on an old piece of hardware before?

If you're not confident at soldering them back on to the actual board, just solder on some wires to the pads, cut them down to a size you are comfortable with, then solder those components to the end of the wires (obviously putting them back the correct direction), this will make it much easier to re-solder the parts, just make sure you insulate with some tape before folding it back close to the circuit board. Always make sure you tin every part before soldering or it will be a nightmare to join them. If unsure of your abilities you should practice soldering on old electronics as dbv says above. Lead based solder with a resin flux core is best in my opinion.
