Another alternative Power Supply?

Post by rukster » Mon Jul 24, 2017 9:09 am

So I came across my favorite Youtuber "GreatScott!" on Power Supplies he mentions about Adafruit powerboost and looking for a cheaper solution which is less than $2. Here the video in case you guys are interested.

Cheap price but the max output of 300mA will certainly be a problem at least for a GBZ.

Where do you find this 300mA value on the linked page? I couldn't find it.

Does it mean that this one is not 1A, even though that's what it says?

If you can prevent me from buying misleading products that won't work for the GBZ, I'd be eternally grateful :)

If you watch the youtube video on the first post, he does actual test on the product. It is rated for 1A but only outputs around 300mA max. Also does not have a short circuit protection. Many times these cheap Chinese parts never live up to their rating. It's always buyer beware.

Oh, nice catch! I did not watch the video at first, and assumed the values stated on the website were ok.

Except there is one thing I do not understand: since we are (at least I think we do) using a booster (I chose this one), does it matter much if the power supply module lives up to its promises?

Forgive my clearly noob questions :)

Well the idea of that product is to be a charger and booster. If you're just going to use the charge bit, it still doesn't provide undervoltage protection as hoolyhoo said. All in all pretty useless for a gbz type project!
I love great Scott videos. Also bigclivedotcom has some great teardowns
