What do i need more to run it?

Post by Namelesshero » Fri Sep 15, 2017 10:58 pm

Hello guys,
i have bought some stuff from Dinsyarcade.com and have a old screen from a "Tomtom One Edition 3".

I have no idea how to attach the screen to the Raspberry board.
Neither i know how to charge the external battery. Do i need one of those "Powerbooster" boards? Or can i just attach the battery to the raspberry directly and charge it then over the onboard power input?

What i want to do with my build:
- Have a speaker and a 3,5 headphone jack and a volume wheel
- play the games on the big TV (probably just with the miniHDMI port on the Pie itself)
- Play on the go in the original "Game Boy" case

Here is a pic of all the parts i have so far.
Thanks in advance.

Best regards
Kim

Yes you will need a charging module, applying direct current without a BMS (battery management system) will 100% lead to battery burn/explosion/blow... and 100% not charge it !

You also cannot use that LCD unless you want to make your own PCB for it, you'll need to buy a new one (3.5" reversing screen)

The button PCB is irrelevant in terms of what screen to use.

As Kite says you'll need a 3.5' screen with its own pcb. There are several out there.

I'd recommend:

https://m.gearbest.com/development-boards/pp_29447.html

These require no 5v modification and work just fine with non intrusive boards which saves space inside the shell.

You cannot use that LCD, you need one that can take composite input, which that one can't (because it is a TomTom device, not a video player screen)

Your first link is a module that will charge a battery, it will not output 5V to power the system, you will need a separate booster for that. Something like this:
http://www.ebay.ca/itm/5V-USB-Output-DC ... 2749.l2649

The second link will charge a battery and output 5V to power your system, although, you are better off buying a powerboost 1000 charger, and not the 500.

What I would buy is this, it's cheaper and does the same thing as the adafruit powerboost, i have successfully used 4 of these and have plans to use a few more:
