Retropie audio settings not saving. Going to 0

I have to go into the green menu by pressing select and X and going into the sound settings and setting the decibels up to get good sound. The sound setting stays at 0 in the retropie main menu and it does not save. I am using a usb sound car but everything works amazingly when I turn up the volume in the menu. How can I get it to save. I have tried exiting by pressing select and X or Select and B cause I read thats how you get it to save correctly but it always goes down back to 0.

Any suggestions?
