First build - Testing Screen (Variant 7) But not booting up

Post by Serif » Sat Mar 03, 2018 5:27 pm

So this is my first build and I'm going the BW screen route and I found my screen is variant #7. I went through and removed the IC and attached a wire to the correct spots. I downloaded Retropie and etched it onto a formated 16 gb SD card and inserted it into my Pi Zero. I wanted to go through and do a screen test before I went any further in my build and unfortunately it seems I must have screwed up somewhere. I followed Fleder's LCD screen test wiring guide (and even watched a few videos to make sure I understood it correctly) and they seem to match up. But when I plug in the USB, I only get a slight flickering on the screen-- VERY FAINT flickering. And I don't see anything even attempt to boot up. I've tried several USB cables so I ruled that out but here are my questions:

1. Is there something I wired incorrectly?
2. If things are wired correctly, what are some other ways I could find out what the issue could be: ie the screen, the pi zero unit, just a bad soldering job, etc.
3. Any general ideas at all?

Thanks so much for your help guys.
