Parts for 1st Build

Post by SudoBoy » Thu Jul 05, 2018 6:24 am

Hey guys, I'm new to the forums. I'm getting stuff together for my first build and had a few questions:

What are the highest-quality buttons out there? Deadpanrobot?

Are there any good decals out there for the higher-quality Japanese shells that come without the original Gameboy text beneath the screen?

If I missed Kite's preorder, is there any way to get my hands on one of his circuit swords before the next preorder? If not, no biggie: I'm patient.

What case are you guys using for storage of your Gameboy after it's completed? Are there any nice zip-up cases that fit well?

Thanks!

Hey there, no way to get a kite board, unless you can find someone willing to sell an old one. His pre order just ended, those those ordered won't be received for a few months now too.

Deadpan robot, kitschbent, retromodding all have good quality buttons and gameboy shells. But the ones from China are not too bad either.

As for decals, check out Yaya's website, he sells some nice stickers and glass screen surrounds. If you're wanting a decal for the gameboy shell to go where the 'nintendo gameboy' logo is, chances are you will need to get some waterslide decals and print yourself. If you look at some of veteran games builds in the show off section he has done this.

As for cases, I have seen some people use some gameboy zip up cases, probably found on ebay. I tend to leave mine on display stands out in the open. When transporting then, I have a few pouches that I like to use that I have around home. Retromodding has some nice neoprene sleves, but I have never tried them.

Also, if interested, and located in Canada or the US, I have a full kit for sale, with everything you need to build a gameboy zero (minus the pi and memory card). Just a common cround PCB, not an AIO. I have had issues with my last shipment overseas, so i'd prefer to keep it in North America only.

Thanks for all the great info!

I'm in the process of waiting for a case from Kubino and several parts from Hoolyhoo and eric_gee. I'll just work on getting all my ducks in a row so that when I eventually get the circuit sword I can just whip it out over a day or two.

I've got to learn to solder in the meantime too, though there isn't much soldering to do with the circuit sword.

I'll definitely check out the listed sites and plan on buying some of yaya's stickers before I'm done with this build.
