Here's the correct syntax for the gpio-poweroff:

Code: Select all

dtoverlay=gpio-poweroff,gpiopin=22,active_low=1
or

Code: Select all

dtoverlay=gpio-poweroff,gpiopin=22,active_low=y

yep - tinkerboy spotted it - you have some bad syntax in the poweroff overlay registration.

personally, i think you should stick with retrogame over gpionext. i've had much better results with that

You guys are the best!
Cambles code had that line in it to print that way in config.txt so I just changed the line in his script to your first line Tinkerboy, I also reflashed everything and added the safe shutdown script to /opt/retropie/configs/all/autostart.sh using SSH.
Also I switched back to retrogame.

Honestly guys thanks heaps, I really appreciate you taking the time to help me out.
