I used 200 ohm resistors to quiet the speaker and headphone just slightly because the headphones were really loud but it also affects the speaker. It sounded fine for me but if it sounds too low replace the resistors circled in green with 10ohm resistors, they can be normal through hole resistors.

@Helder Just realised you said 10ohm resisters I bought 100ohm resisters would they still work?

Doing a bit of probing on the board there is continuity between r15 and +speaker. Also tried 3 other speakers and none are producing sound. @helder is there any other way I can test? Thanks

Edit:

Ran the command 'amixer cset numid=3 2' and I now have sound, turned it right up to 100 and now it sounds like I am sitting next to someone playing music through headphones it's so quiet.

Volume in Retropie is whacked all the way up too.

same problem here(really low sound), Alsamixer is at 80(any higher and it crackles) and retroarch is at 12dB.
Is there something were missing?

Gonna try that tomorrow.

I shall have to give that a try, I have done the following;

Aslamixer - 100% (couldn't work out how to force above 100%)
Retroarch - 12db and made sure config saved on exit - This did improve it slightly
4 Speakers - Various Wattage
Retropie - Again up to 100%
and a couple other bits to try and improve the sound

Apart from that I have it all working, just need to shorten some cables and fit it all together

I will nip into CPC on the way home and grab some resistors, cheers for the info

They will still work, just won't be as loud as using a 10ohm one.

Replaced the resistors yesterday with some 10ohm surface mount ones and I can confirm this improves the volume on low speakers significantly. If your not worried about using the old resistors again and you haven't got any braided cable just put a large blob of solder on it and that should pull it off for you.

Just got my board in the mail. Seems to have been handled in typical Postal Service fashion but no pads were lifted so I should be able to just solder it right back on. Excited to get this project going but I am still waiting on my case, screen, volume wheel and buttons.

Hi,

I wired my Helder board pretty much like that. I also wired the Screen (Power comes from Helder board, Screen works) but my pi doesnt recognize the helder board as usb controller - shouldnt it work just like that or do i need to do something differently? I twisted D+/D- cables.

Make sure your PP23 on the Pi isn't shorted to the small solder joint to the right. The spot to the right of PP23 is what holds the USB jack to the Pi, and you would be basically shorting D- to ground. Seems Helder's board is very resilient to shorts, thankfully.

The headphone jack is meant to be separate you solder it on yourself

No it's not a few have had broken/lifted pads from the bad handling of the postal service, luckily mine made it all the way to the uk in perfect condition with the headphone socket attached

Hi Guys,

I was looking at many soldering diagrams but I cannot solve this one (again, shame on me).

I have the all in one from helder with the power strip on the bottom right and i have the adafruit power boost. Where do I put the slide power switch.
A link in the forum if there is a good picture/ diagram or anything like that would already help. I just dont want to solder and desolder the whole time accidentally breaking something. The youtube movies are just not right for me, I gotta see a diagram (or such) .
