So you have usb 2 going to that black blob of electrical tape, so what is there? Have you tried the faq on the first post? Usb sticks don't work 100% with this hub chip or all keyboards especially once you apply the usb 1.1 fix needed for wifi to work.

[*]

Only the internal usb is connected at the moment.
The data wires to the external one goes to any of the hubs on the aio board right? And the power to the power boost?

Is my keyboard drawing too much power perhaps?
Should i buy one of the recommended wireless keyboards instead? I am using a wired logitech keyboard atm.

Did you follow this wiring diagram:

once it's setup like this then you wire anyone of those 2 hubs solder points to a usb port (be sure to wire them properly) then it should work with the keyboard, if not then try the usb 1.1 fix mentioned in the first post of this thread.

Something must be wired wrong on my build. I bought one of the recommended keyboards today, it doesn't work, i tested with a new image of retro pi for the zero.

So, red and black from the charger usb goes to where on the power boost?
Red and black on the GB power switch goes where?
And finally, ground in and +5v in on the AIO board goes where?

Just to double check that i got those right.

Edit: i connected a usb cable from both the power and data usb ports (not at the same time) to my mac, and to my surprise the zero starts in both cases, something must be wrong with my wiring?

Are you using that powerboost 1000c like in the image above or the banggood $3 power board? If it's the latter under the board V- is the Black or negative and the V+ is the RED or positive that feeds into the AIO.

I made that simple image above and it should be simple to follow if it's not for you then get someone who can help you. I color coded each wire separately so it's easy to follow where what goes where so have a look over it again and compare to your wiring.

I'm sure you didn't test things as you added parts and when it was mostly together you tested it and found out it doesn't work and have hooked up alot of things which is now a pain to remove and will likely damage things if not careful.

Lesson here is if this is all new and you have no idea what your doing go over everything multiple times and read everything before hand like the PWM audio that many many people don't do and then ask why there is no audio.......

Hook something up and test it if it's good hook up the next thing and test and so on.

I did follow that diagram and i did test stuff as i went
Along but usb and the gb buttons was among the last stuff i could try. I know about the extra steps for audio I am not that worried about that part.

I have the 1000c power boost yes.

That diagram doesn't have the power switch and it looks like it's not wired the same as the tutorial i followed. or, that part of the tutorial was a bit unclear.

what i'd need is for someone to tell me from and where to those wires i listed should go just to be sure..

I didn't add the switch because there are plenty of guides with the switch and I have no idea what people have for switches and also in reality this guide is just like the other already in the other wiring thread except people have a hard time figuring out what's new from this board and the old one. Simply look at the power wiring and USB wiring then the rest is the same as the wiring thread with the exception of the headphone socket which is done for you also.

Got my screen up and running. Im testing but I get no Gamepad detected. I press and hold a and nothing.
I first didn't have power coming in from the power boost. Instead had power from the pi to the breakout hub and then the aio, and screen to the breakout hub. Did I just fry my aio?
I'm using 1.4 I believe

No I doubt you fried it, more than likely you are using RetroPie 4.1, that version has had issues with buttons and other things not properly working. Try RetroPie 4.02 as that is the most stable version that works with out issues and also post photos of the wiring to be sure it's not the problem.
