Hello All
The project I am doing I would like to use a FFC cable to connect the Pi to the LCD controller board so I do not have to use some horrible HDMI coupler and waste a lot of space in the process at first I thought I could use one of these:

But again the PCB for the connectors take up a lot of room and I remembered I saw a post on here where some one had de-soldered the HDMI connector and replaced it with a FFC connector so I removed the connectors from the HDMI cable and put one on the pi and one on the controller board but now it won't work and I get noting but a black screen but when I remove the cable the screen switches to a blue screen saying no signal. I have checked the joints for any shortages with a DMM and every thing is ok so I am stuck is there any one who has tried this and succeeded?
When you look at the second image I know that HDMI uses 19 pins and the connector has 20 so I have left pin 20 not connected to any thing
HDMI over FFC

Re: HDMI over FFC
As long as each connector is attached as a pair to the other then it should in theory work.
Some careful testing required

I was able to get this to work on my project. I also used a 20 pin connector like you, so it is definitely possible.
I would check to make sure that the empty pin is on the same side on both boards, making sure that they match up exactly.
The other thing I had to do, was I had to flip the cable over on one end. So on one of the boards have the metal on the FFC cable facing down, on the other board have it facing up. This made it work for me.

Re: HDMI over FFC
This should give you a push into the right direction, had one of these laying around here, maybe you should follow the lines.
The fcc insert is facing to the hdmi port !
P.S i see a short or solder brigde on your pi hdmi @ pin 16/17 this could be the problem. can't see it well. take a further look at it.
Also noticed that you inserted the FCC with the connections upwards, you should flip it down that should make a 19 times better contact shouldn't it ? and last possibility is that you have to lift the whole connector off and leave one pin unused at the other side, so you dont confuse pin 1/2 and 19/20
Should be good to go now

Re: HDMI over FFC
For anyone still interested in this mod to save a lot of space.
I have used mirrored ffc cable and the extra pin is on the right side of connector
