I ended up testing the screen with an old DVD player and the picture came through. I think I just burnt the pins on the raspberry pi, so I ordered a new one.
What, the power pins on Pi? pp1 pp6? If you did, you can still use the Pi, don't just throw it away...
No the power pins are fine, it's the TV pin and the ground next to it that are burnt. The screens back light was turning on wheb testing with the pi, there just wasn't a picture. I ran power through the pi and video through my DVD player to test the screen.

What do you think I could do with the pi now that those pins are burnt? Haven't thrown it away yet

Stop using shitty high wattage soldering irons and buy a temperature controlled iron and avoid damaging anything else. Look up 898D+.

Okay so the new raspberry pi came in, and I can't get this fucking thing to display on the screen. Everything is wired up correctly, I have my NOOBS card in the pi, and the screens back light turns on then off just like before.

Is there some step I'm missing here? Do I need to change the input on the screen? I bought an SD card preloaded with NOOBS, do I need to do anything to it?

It seems that everything else is going perfectly except this bullshit.

Ditch the noobs image and burn a Retropie image and try that. The noobs image is probably only looking for hdmi.

Should I download Raspian first, or just Retropie?

Retropie is built on the Raspian operating system. The image is all you will need. Do you know how to burn it to the sd card?
