GBZ DSi shoulder buttons

Post by hueblo » Tue Mar 28, 2017 10:58 pm

Thought someone would find my DSi should buttons for my V2 interesting. Going for the small flush look. I used a Step Drill bit to drill a 8mm whole. Then bought a polycarbonate sheet from home depot to make button wells. I mounted the Soft tactile buttons from adafruit on a bread board. You have to drill the holes on the poly-carbonate sheet so the square part of the tactile buttons mount on top. I did have to dab some hot glue on back of the buttons to help ensure the soft tactile buttons made contact ( you can try to avoid that by going with a thinner poly-carbonate sheet). I have to paint the case so I will not be mounting them any time soon but as long as the glue does not get in the buttons wells everything should work.

Think these are what I need I've been trying to decide what I wanted to do for months now. Either like this or just snes start select buttons at side argh decisions!

The start/select was my second option but might be a little tricky to those holes cut correctly. The step drill bit makes things a lot cleaner when it comes to round buttons, that's what made me go with this option.

The OCD in me hopes you plan to straighten out that A button before sealing things up. :D

Looks cool otherwise, though.

The letters can be easily removed but I'm actually going to paint them for my BMO GBZ =)

DSi buttons may be a little slim, but DS lite buttons have a decent depth to them. I'm considering using them as I have some spare from a re-shelling

I'm going for that flush look. When you push down the button its actually pushed into the case a little.

update: the Adafruit soft tactile buttons are pretty much worthless. To activate the button you have to press down so hard it hurts your finger defeating the purpose of it being a soft tactile button in my opinion. Had to switch to regular tactile buttons.
