I went ahead and made a thread just for talking about the screen, alternatives, places to buy, etc: viewtopic.php?f=30&t=2887

Just found you guys via this project, just wanted to say thx for coming up with the idea and putting together a project for it. It looks like it shouldn't be too difficult to try it out myself with the kit / guide you guys are putting together. Definitely one to keep an eye on. Nice work guys.

Quick question regarding the buttons - I accidentally ordered DSi buttons instead of DS Lite buttons. Looking at the photos of the two consoles side-by-side the buttons look really similar in size. Does anyone happen to know if they are actually the same size and spacing?

Image

Would certainly make it easier to find buttons if they are.

Unfortunately those buttons (although they look similar) are totally different on the inside. Different shape (so they'd need a re-worked model for the button wells) and more importantly, they are the clicky dome-switch kind.

I just got my 2.4" screens in so now I'm just 2 PCB's, the 3d printable file, and 2 USB soundcards away from a compleatable build! (although if the PCB's and Soundcards arn't here in time for my June 2nd vacation, which I intend to show these off on, I might make my own with copper tape and simply go without sound at first). This project finally convinced my wife that we need a 3-d printer so I just need the files and I'm all set (because I have a 3-d printer but zero modeling know-how).

Looking at the screen I'm fairly sure rounding 1 or 2 corners will allow me to center the screen and still give the needed empty space around the edge.

Not that any of you needed my update but I'm just so excited!

@wermy

In the first mintypi you made, how did you connect the buttons? Did you use some micro controller or did you use the GPIO pins?

The build uses GPIO for everything except the usb audio. This also minimizes the drain on the battery since there isn't alot to power.

I got my 2.4 inch bare screens in today and I should have the connector and pcb in by next week to test everything out. This is the last piece of the puzzle to get the project moving and a guide out.

Fantastic news! have all the parts except the obvious, in development parts. Still need to eat a lot of mint though :lol:

Thanks for making this :)

After looking at the board pics in the other thread, I had a couple of quick parts questions:
  • What are the black screws used in the pics for holding the parts together?
  • What kind of switches are you using for start/select on the boards?
Thanks!

Hi guys. Do we have an idea on how much Helders board is going to be? I've been wondering fit a while and hungry for information. Please be gentle. It's my first post. And my 40th. Well here in the UK it is!
