Button button, who's got the L&R buttons?

Post by MadModder » Wed Aug 30, 2017 6:31 pm

While looking over wermy's GBZ build on youtube...again...i noticed something, contact switches are ugly lol. but in all seriousness, i was wondering what alternatives people have used for L&R buttons. Though most of my parts list will be the same as wermy's, I of course want a little bit of individuality to my own. Just copying someone else's work is no fun!

I've used large tactile switches like this. I didn't like the little tiny buttons:

Wow, you can't miss pressing those :D, also when you lay the Gbz on the table it's resting on those buttons..
They're nice but i used something like 6mm instead of 12mm.
And yes, these tactile things are really doomed, you need to concentrate the press while that little pin is poking in the inside of your finger.. i really hate tactiles, especially the clicking noise clunking through the case.

Yeah, they do stick out a lot...hahaha. Check out some of the builds by Lphillimore, he has used the same buttons, but he has the buttons farther in the gameboy shell, the lip of the cap sits below the drilled hole. In all honesty his look much better. And if I ever build another one i'll go that route.

Check out the second pic in this thread of his to see what I mean:

Yeah, i've seen all things from Lp
I've used some spring loaded mini switches in one of my builds, and they have 6mm caps, they're mounted in such a way that if unpressed they come exactly below the level of the flat surface on the back of the gb, so they're just about 1mm above the table when it lays flat.
Also very nice feeling (no clicking or clunking) and just barely touching them does the job, but not so that you press them by accident, in my eyes they are perfect.
They also match the color of the case i used, but in a few days or so i'll post that Gbz in the show off corner, so you can see it all.
Greetings 144Tech.

Hey there ! I actually a set of items that allow you to use those large switches and have them placed at the center back, with the lip under the shell. You also won't need glue as it is all screwed in using the original screw posts :) only downside is that you can't use a cart reader but other than that, I feel like it is a good option. You can check the link in my signature if you want more details on how it works/pics

the way he has the buttons in his build/kits, they feel terrible (especially for the work they require).....

besides if you wanted to butcher the rear case/shell to have those caps, its better to use them with tactile switches/button as they're intended to be used with....
those click switches are the reason they feel terrible in the builds....
