Welp... a little more on this BW composite screen from Nioceshopping.. Now that I have everything connected. the display is not as good. It seems like the color is distroted, the brightness is a little off, and there seems to be some small flickering going on. I am wondering if it is trying to pull 12v but only getting 5v. The other thing is if I connect the powerconnect to USB the screen improves a ton and goes back to normal.

Any thoughts?

This is my display off Niceshopping Amazon. http://www.amazon.com/BW-3-5-Inch-Monit ... detailpage

I placed the jumper and it does seem to improve the jitter in the screen, but, I still think it is being under powered. If i leave the screen on for a while, it does seem to get worse in quality.

Here is a video when retropie starts the blank screen saver. You should be able to see the jitter. https://goo.gl/photos/tNMSozsK2i2LsHS28

I will update my progress thread once I figure out if I need to further mod the display.

Shit, now I'm scared about the things I ordered. My solution to this problem is to buy a 3v to 12v boost converter. This should make it work but I think it will impact battery life.

You only need 5v to 12v, or even lower, but yes, it will affect the battery life, but not substantial.
I am also working with a 5v to 12v step up for my VGA Display.

Hi,

I have same screen and same issue!

Actually, I'm getting 5v from GPIO but i heart GPIO intensity is capped to 750 mA by a fuse except if you directly supply your raspberry general 5v by GPIO (in this case, rpi isn't protected anymore). I suggest you to try 5v directly after powerboost (I'll try that too)

Yup, I did this already and you will probably have the same problem. I ordered a 12v step up from Amazon and it will be here Thursday so I will install it this week and report back.

If you bought something like this, be aware that i tested this one and was not really happy with it.
The output seems to be inconsistent. I bought this one here, and now it works like a charm.
On the plus side, it is much smaller and really cheap.

Well, I either did not set up my 12v jumper up properly, or I am hosed

Here is my 12v Jumper from Pololu:

I cut both my red 5v wire and my ground going to my screen to my breakout board. I then solder the components like you see in the picture:
VOUT --> Red wire to screen
VIN --> Red wire to breakout board
Gound --> Black wire to GND solder point (the wires are solder together)

I get a LOW light on my PowerBoost and the screen never comes on.

There is a SHDN connection on the 12v jumper but I do not know what that means.

Anyone got any input?

The SHDN pin is to cut voltage out if input voltage drops under 1.1v. Have you tuned the output voltage yet. There's a little trimmer you can tune with a screwdriver and a voltmeter. TUNE THAT TO 12V
