Low Pass Filter: Parts and Board question

Post by WandererGen » Mon Oct 02, 2017 8:58 am

I have a couple questions on building the low pass filter. As context, I was at Level 0 on my soldering skills prior to starting this project, so maybe these are slam-dunk questions for some of you:
  • I have a few parts I can harvest from a practice board I purchased to prepare for making my GBZ. It has the exact Electrolytic capacitor I need. It also comes with 20nF and 22nF ceramics. Will this do the job since they are between the 10 and 33nF recommended by wermy, or does the LPF require either 10 or 33nF?
  • Is it possible to make the LPF without the board (i.e. just solder the components together consistent with the diagram?)

Hi,

You can find an explanation of the circuit on: https://learn.adafruit.com/adding-basic ... ry-pi-zero#

A low pass filter is a analog device. If you change the values of the capacitors, you will change the cut off frequency (highest frequency that will go throught the filter). If your values are similar, it wont matter much.

You dont need a board to solder the components on. But is is much cleaner!

Thanks so much for the assistance. The article was definitely helpful in understanding what is being accomplished by the filter. I'll give it a go board-free and see if I am successful.
