Re: [Interest Check] Original DMG Buttons Shoulder Bracket
Great! Thanks for the input guys.
Also the buttons just arrived so the last thing that needs to get done is finish designing and testing the bracket that holds it all together. I'm a little busy with school at the moment so this may take a bit of time, but I'm expecting to have it designed within this week.
The design has had to change as I realized the side of the board won't allow to have the bracket as one piece. It will most likely be 3 pieces: one piece as the base with the Wells, and then 1 piece for each side that can Gon on the screw posts. These 2 smaller pieces will sandwhich the board and screw through them, Into the base. I'll show rough drafts as I go through the design phase so you all can have a better understanding.

No problem, just take your time. I don't mind waiting and I am really happy that you are doing this at all. Kits like yours make building a GBZ so much easier for newbies like me.erik_gee wrote: ↑Sat Sep 23, 2017 11:13 amAlso the buttons just arrived so the last thing that needs to get done is finish designing and testing the bracket that holds it all together. Re: [Interest Check] Original DMG Buttons Shoulder Bracket
Again sorry, personal life has severely cut into my project time . School year is really Killin me. Quick update and pics. I finally finished designing and testing the lower half of the bracket, and have finalized the design as shown below . Just need to work on the upper bracket, that will attach the whole thing to the gameboy itself. Lower bracket fits perfectly into the cavity with a little bit of pressure. Snaps right into place. It also features pegs for the conductive pads, that holds it perfectly centered. Don't mind the large cut outs, they were made for my other bracket which uses larger buttons

Looking awesome, Can't wait to own one! I love that there are more nerds like me out there that love the projects like this and keep them alive and making new parts for them.

On your last picture, what kind of button it is?
Can we use this buttons with your PCB?

Those are actually some custom wooden Gameboy buttons I'm making

This bracket uses the orginal dmg buttons, not tactile switches. So the picture you linked would not work on this bracket. However I do make another bracket that uses those buttons you have. Check my signature for the link to that page

Re: [Interest Check] Original DMG Buttons Shoulder Bracket
Ok I think I about wrapped it all up ! Going to test it for a day or 2 before I put it up for sale just to make sure everything is solid.
There have been a few design changes along the way. As of now it works by force fitting the button Wells portion into the compartment. Then the buttons are inserted and the cut out conductive pads are placed on top. Then the PCB is laid on top of that, and the 2 holders are inserted into the screw posts. The center screw is inserted (more to keep the PCB in position than actually hold it all together). And then the holders are screwed in, applying pressure to the PCB and keeping it in place. No glue required AT ALL. Leading to a cleaner looking build and higher reliability(as the parts won't shift with heat and pressure like glued parts would).
OR, if you don't want to use the holders for some reason (want to save space etc.), You can forego them all together and use the 2 screws to attach the photo directly to the wells. However this will require you to cut a little more of the conductive pad as it sit above the screw hole. If you go this route, you will need to glue everything in place.
I originally planned on adding 2 more screws near the holders, as you can see there are drill holes in the PCB and holders for them. But after going through the design process realised they were unnecessary. I left them in in case other still want to add screws but again, unnecessary.
A lot of time and effort has been put into this, as the small area presented many design challenges. Namely making parts small enough to fit but keeping structural integrity . Glad to finally check it off my to do list !

Thank you.
I trying to do something with this big buttons (like in my link to Ali...) and PCB (to dont have a sound of clicking button).
I also prefer that kind of size for L&R than original buttons.
Actually i trying to do my owen 3D model of bracket.
What software do you use?
I use the free one, but the finition if very rude.

I don't know what erik_gee uses, but three good free CAD programs are Autodesk Fusion 360, Onshape and FreeCAD.
Fusion 360 is cloudbased and available for Windows & OSX, Onshape is webbased and runs in several browsers on practically any system and FreeCAD ist a classic download for Windows/OSX/Linux. All are free for personal use.
