Re: YaGz - Yet another Gameboy zero
I'm just starting to gather my parts, but I like your point about the shoulder buttons not being clicky. The problem is that I have no local electronics place to get my hands on (or ears on...?) anything before I buy it. Plus the tactile switches come 100 at a time!
SNES shoulder buttons were my fave. I wonder if I could gut and refit them to work?
Perhaps someday I can convince the wife that I need a 3d printer...

Sadly I don't think I can slip that one by her.moooarcuuuus wrote: ↑Mon Sep 18, 2017 1:16 amits nice easy, here are some build with SNES L+R buttons.shesaysidontlisten wrote: ↑Sat Sep 16, 2017 10:31 pmSNES shoulder buttons were my fave. I wonder if I could gut and refit them to work?

I really want to go the SNES button route. Part of the reason is I don't want to buy 100 switches that I won't use! I really like the larger buttons on the back, but it's too bad it eliminates using a cartridge reader which I really wanted to do.

I don't want the click noise and feel and I have big hands and the larger buttons above the battery appears more comfortable.

moooarcuuuus,
What do you think you are going to use as a bracket for the screen? I have been thinking through a number of options in my head and am wondering what you might have in mind. I am also considering the "640x480" option from Kite.

Re: YaGz - Yet another Gameboy zero
Hi smoothoperator. Things have changed, because Kite did not order enough boards, but no problem, i buyed an old one. This build has to be 320x240 with v0.5. The Board and screen floats somewhere in the GB postal service. The bracket for the screen (this build) will be a printer friendly version of the HoolyHoo bracket. I upload the files next days. I have to update the first post next days. If I had known that, I would have integrated the joystick holder into the screen bracket.
So my next build will be 640x480 with a Rpi3, maybe in one or two month. I think about a bracket when I have the 640x480 screen.

Screen bracket for 320x240 from HoolyHoo cuted in two parts. So I dont need support material for printing.
The part 20-027-01 is the frame and 20-028-01 are the holes
To "cut" threads into the holes, heat the screws with a soldering iron. Screw in, let the screws cool down and unscrew again. Works perfect.

Re: YaGz - Yet another Gameboy zero
Last week i bought a SAIO with Pi3ext, Pi3, Buttons etc... from one guy in this board for a very fair price. On saturday I build the YaGz. After six hours, I hold a working GBz in my hand. Kites system works like a charm.
First I want to test the Pi3 and Pi3ext. The Pi3 was bought without ports, so I only have to cut some edges. I soldered pin headers only to test it with an IDE-cable. It works, so everything is fine for a Pi3 build someday.
The little board. For positioning the spacers I have used drills. Fits perfect.
Testing the soldered board.
My shoulder buttons and the psp joystick.
I have to cut the screen bracket a little bit. For my next build there will be the joystick support in the screen bracket intergrated.
My brain told me to start playing games as soon as possible, so I have no more pictures. After finishing it, I tested it with SNES games for a many hours. Works perfect.

Re: YaGz - Yet another Gameboy zero
This is the current state.
Next steps:
- Add two buttons to the Pi to flash the 32u4 on the fly with different "keyboard layouts". For playing adventures I need the joystick as a mouse, for C64 spacebar, for Kodi others.... etc.
- One or two extra button on the 32u4
- Add an DC-Jack
- Making some internal pictures
- Maybe WS2812b for glowing buttons
Conclusion: 10/10 would build a GBz again.
